Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!
Despite the fact that we as a family had intended on homeschooling our kids from the time that our daughter was a little over 1 year old, I hadn’t shared much about it on the blog. I would occasionally write about it here and there (most of which I’d since unpublished during the 2021 website overhaul, and may move over here in the form of throwback posts at some point), but I’d really only started writing about homeschooling in a more “official” capacity in 2020. It hadn’t really made sense before, since I wasn’t really doing anything different than many other stay-at-home-moms. There are plenty of mommy blogs out there already. Things are a bit different now. We are secular homeschoolers and use a hybrid planned/unschooled approach. What this means is that I pay attention to and log the things my children actively choose to pursue on their own, and due to state laws on the subjects we have to cover, I use curricula to help fill in the blanks so nothing gets missed. An example of what this looks like, my daughter is is an avid bookworm and enjoys creative writing, and we use an online service that I’ll write about in the future that teaches grammar and spelling, so as far as I’m concerned she’s got English covered. I don’t have to plan that. Math, on the other hand, is something we actively do together (I’ll share our favorite curriculum for that in the future as well).
In this blog, I’m more focused on writing about homeschooling from my perspective as a parent, as well as sharing things that we enjoy doing, the curricula I reference, or things that make my life easier. I’m not sharing much about my kids, because I’m concerned about their privacy and internet safety, so I’m erring on the side of caution. If you are a homeschooler, or interested in homeschooling, hopefully you’ll find something of value in here. There aren’t many posts in here yet, but I’m going to go ahead and plop down the search bar for this blog so I don’t forget, and as its own blog, it gets its own RSS feed.
This post is for the parents with ADHD: it’s time to take the pressure of yourselves, especially when it comes to homeschooling.
I’d started/planned on this series of posts long before COVID and the mass exodus of families into the homeschool realm (Ok, maybe not mass exodus, but our homeschool community has definitely grown with schools going virtual for the coming school year). If you’re looking for ideas on video games that count towards homeschooling - as a supplement of course - read on.
This post is a twofer… the first part is about crisis schooling. The second part is my response to the recent Harvard article on “The Risks of Homeschooling.”
